Harassment Therapy in Manchester

Experiencing harassment can leave you feeling anxious, fearful, unsafe or powerless. Whether it happens at work, online, in public or in a personal relationship, the emotional impact can be lasting. Therapy can offer a space to talk about what happened and begin to reclaim your sense of security and self-worth.

As a BACP-registered therapist, I provide one-to-one counselling in Manchester for people affected by harassment. Our sessions are confidential and shaped by your needs. Whether you are still in a difficult situation or dealing with the aftermath, we can work together to help you feel more grounded and supported.

If you would like to explore whether therapy could help after harassment, I’m here to support you.

Understanding Harassment

Harassment can take many forms, including verbal, emotional, physical, or psychological. It might happen in the workplace, online, in social settings, or even at home. However it occurs, the impact often goes beyond the moment itself. It can leave you feeling unsafe, hyper-alert, ashamed or unsure of your own reactions.

You might find yourself replaying situations long after they’ve passed, struggling to concentrate or avoid certain places or people. You may have minimised your experience for a long time or been made to feel that you were overreacting. But the effects of harassment are real, and they can affect your confidence, mental health and sense of trust — both in others and in yourself.

You don’t need to keep justifying what happened. You deserve space to process it.

How Harassment Therapy Can Help

Therapy can offer a confidential, supportive space where your experiences are taken seriously. Whether the harassment happened recently or years ago, whether it was isolated or ongoing, we can begin to explore what it’s brought up for you, and how it might still be affecting your life now.

Together, we might explore:

  • The emotional impact of harassment, including fear, anxiety, anger or shame

  • How it has affected your boundaries, sense of self or relationships

  • Feelings of powerlessness, isolation or self-blame

  • Coping mechanisms you may have developed to stay safe or avoid conflict

  • What safety, self-trust and empowerment might look like for you now

Therapy is not about re-living what happened. It’s about giving yourself the time, space and support to begin moving forward — in a way that feels manageable and right for you.

My Approach

Harassment often involves a misuse of power. It can leave you feeling small, unheard or silenced. In therapy, the focus is on restoring your voice, your agency and your emotional steadiness.

I work from a person-centred foundation, which means we’ll start with your experience and go at your pace. You won’t be asked to explain everything clearly or pushed to talk about anything before you're ready. Our sessions are tailored to what feels most important and helpful to you.

When it’s useful, I may bring in techniques from trauma-informed practice, Transactional Analysis (TA) or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). These can support us in understanding patterns that have formed as a result of the harassment and in developing tools for self-regulation, boundary-setting and self-compassion.

Why work with me

I’m a Level-4 certified BACP-registered therapist (you can see my credentials here) with experience supporting people who’ve lived through harassment in many forms, including workplace harassment, online abuse and controlling relationships.

You don’t need to minimise your experience or prove how serious it was. If it’s affected you, that matters. I offer a steady, non-judgemental space where you can begin to make sense of what happened and feel more in control of how you move forward.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about Harassment Counselling

How do I know if I need harassment therapy?

It is essential to consult a mental health professional if you feel that harassment is negatively impacting your daily functioning, relationships, or overall well-being. Common signs that therapy may be beneficial include increased anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and difficulty forming or maintaining healthy relationships. If you suspect that you need support to cope with harassment, please reach out to me, and we can discuss your concerns and determine the most suitable course of action.

How long does harassment therapy typically last?

The duration of harassment therapy varies depending on each individual's unique circumstances, progress, and therapeutic goals. While some people may benefit from short-term therapy, others may require more extended support. As your therapist, I will work closely with you to assess your needs and adjust the therapy duration accordingly, ensuring you receive the most appropriate care.

How can you help me with my harassment-related issues?

As an experienced therapist specialising in harassment, I am committed to providing compassionate, personalised care to support your healing journey. By utilising a range of evidence-based therapeutic frameworks and tailoring the approach to your specific needs, I aim to help you process your experiences, develop effective coping strategies, and build resilience for lasting recovery.

Can harassment therapy be provided online or over the phone?

Yes, I offer various modes of interaction to accommodate your needs and preferences. In addition to face-to-face sessions, I provide therapy via Zoom/Video call, telephone, and walking therapy. This flexibility allows you to access the support you need in a manner that is most comfortable and convenient for you.

What if I am not comfortable discussing my harassment experiences?

Your comfort and safety are of utmost importance to me. As your therapist, I will never pressure you to disclose information that you are not ready to share. The therapeutic process is a collaborative effort, and we will work at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Our goal is to build trust and establish a safe space for you to explore your experiences and emotions when you feel ready.

Can you help family members or friends of someone who has experienced harassment?

Absolutely. Supporting a loved one who has experienced harassment can be challenging, and it is essential to care for your well-being as well. I can provide guidance and support to help you understand your loved one's experience and develop strategies for providing compassionate care while maintaining your own mental and emotional health.
