Isolation & Loneliness Therapy in Manchester

Feeling lonely does not always mean being alone. You might be surrounded by others and still feel disconnected or unseen. Isolation can creep in slowly or follow a big life change, and it can affect your confidence, energy and sense of purpose. Therapy can offer a space to feel heard, understood and less alone.

As a BACP-registered therapist, I offer one-to-one counselling in Manchester for people struggling with loneliness and isolation. Together, we can explore what you are feeling and what might help you begin to reconnect with yourself and others in a meaningful way.

If you are feeling isolated and want to talk, I’m here to listen.

Understanding Isolation & Loneliness

Loneliness isn’t just about being alone. You can feel isolated in a room full of people, in relationships, at work, or even within your own family. It’s a deep kind of disconnection that can leave you feeling unseen, unwanted or like you’re on the outside of other people’s lives looking in.

You might be spending more time alone than you’d like, or struggling to form or maintain relationships. Perhaps your life looks “fine” from the outside, but something’s missing underneath. Over time, loneliness can affect your self-esteem, mood, and how you relate to the world. It can also be hard to talk about, especially if you feel like you should be coping.

Therapy won’t replace connection, but it can be a place to begin rebuilding it.

How Therapy Can Help Loneliness

Therapy offers a calm, private space where you can talk about your experience without pressure, embarrassment or expectation. Whether loneliness is something new or something that’s been with you for a long time, it’s valid, and it deserves attention.

Together, we might explore:

  • The emotional impact of isolation, including sadness, shame or anxiety

  • How past experiences or attachment patterns may play a role

  • Fear of rejection or difficulty trusting others

  • The difference between being alone and feeling lonely

  • What meaningful connection looks like for you

Therapy can help you understand the shape of your loneliness and where it comes from — so that, in time, you can begin to form relationships that feel safer, more fulfilling and more real.

My Approach

Feeling disconnected can make it even harder to reach out for support. If this is your first time speaking with someone, or if you’re unsure what to say, that’s okay. You don’t need to have it all figured out.

My approach is person-centred, which means we’ll work together in a way that feels respectful and steady. I won’t make assumptions or push you to be more social — instead, we’ll explore what connection, safety and belonging mean for you, and how we can support you in moving towards those things.

When it’s helpful, I may bring in ideas from Transactional Analysis (TA) or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), especially if self-esteem, anxious thoughts or old patterns are getting in the way of connection. But our work will always be guided by your pace and what feels most important in the moment.

Why work with me

I’m a Level-4 certified BACP-registered therapist (you can see my credentials here) with experience supporting people who feel isolated, overlooked or disconnected, whether that’s from others, from their past, or from themselves.

You don’t need to explain why you feel this way or try to “fix” it quickly. I offer a calm, compassionate space where we can begin to understand what’s been getting in the way of connection and explore what it might look like to feel less alone.
