PTSD Therapy in Manchester
Living with post-traumatic stress can feel overwhelming and unpredictable. Flashbacks, hypervigilance, anxiety and emotional numbness are just some of the ways trauma can show up. You might feel stuck in the past or unable to feel safe in the present. Therapy can help you begin to regain a sense of stability and control.
As a BACP-registered therapist, I provide one-to-one counselling in Manchester for people experiencing symptoms of PTSD. We’ll work together at your pace, with care and sensitivity, to explore how trauma has affected you and what might help you begin to move forward.
If you’re living with trauma or PTSD and want support, I’m here to talk when you’re ready.
Understanding PTSD
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. That might include abuse, assault, accidents, medical trauma, loss, or any experience that felt threatening or overwhelming. Not everyone responds to trauma in the same way, but if the effects of something you’ve lived through are still showing up in your daily life, it’s valid to seek support.
You might experience flashbacks, nightmares, panic, hypervigilance or emotional numbness. Some people avoid anything that reminds them of what happened, while others feel stuck in cycles of anger, shame or anxiety they can’t explain. These symptoms can affect sleep, concentration, relationships and your overall sense of safety.
PTSD can feel isolating, but you don’t have to navigate it alone.
How PTSD Therapy Can Help
PTSD therapy offers a steady, confidential space to begin processing what you’ve been through. You don’t need to describe everything in detail. You won’t be pushed to revisit anything before you’re ready. The goal is not to erase what happened, but to reduce its power over how you feel and function now.
Together, we might explore:
-
The emotional and physical symptoms you’re experiencing
-
How trauma responses are showing up in daily life
-
The role of avoidance, dissociation or emotional numbing
-
Strategies for grounding, self-regulation and building safety
-
How to reconnect with yourself and feel more in control
Therapy for PTSD can help you feel less reactive, more stable and more able to move through the world without being constantly pulled back into the past.
My Approach
PTSD can affect every part of life, and healing doesn’t happen overnight. My role is to support you gently and consistently, without judgement or pressure. You don’t need to explain everything clearly or make sense of what happened before we begin. We’ll go at a pace that feels safe for you.
My approach is person-centred, which means I start by listening. You’re the expert in your experience, and I’ll work alongside you to explore what’s most important — whether that’s understanding how trauma is showing up now, rebuilding trust in your body and mind, or simply learning to feel safe again.
When it’s helpful, I may bring in trauma-informed strategies, along with ideas from Transactional Analysis (TA) or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), especially when we’re working with flashbacks, triggers or thought patterns that keep you stuck. But the foundation will always be care, respect and your sense of control.
Why work with me
I’m a Level-4 certified BACP-registered therapist (you can see my credentials here) with additional training in trauma, PTSD, and complex PTSD. I’ve supported clients through a wide range of traumatic experiences, including abuse, loss, medical trauma and ongoing stress in unsafe environments.
You don’t need to relive what happened in order to heal. You don’t have to be “strong” or have it all together.
I offer a calm, steady space where you can begin to understand what’s going on inside, and start finding a way forward, one step at a time.
Ready to begin?
If you’re living with the effects of trauma or PTSD and would like support, I offer a free 15-minute consultation. You’re welcome to share a little about what’s been going on, ask questions or just see how it feels to speak.
